Views of Veterans on Veterans Day

Friday, November 11 is Veterans Day. I am sure that everyone knows at least one man or woman who has served our nation, and many of us are proud to have one or more of these brave individuals in our family trees. Each veteran’s experience with serving our nation was different from the experience of any other veteran. Veterans of the same war may have experienced similar things because they were serving at the same time and place, but each has his or her own unique story to tell. In honor of Veterans Day and in honor of my favorite … Continue reading

Our Holiday Too

Today, Martin Luther King Jr.’s Birthday is observed by government agencies, public schools, and many private schools and offices. Some businesses, however, deal with holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Veterans’ Day by remaining open (in a global economy, many of them must). Instead of these holidays, many give their employees two or more “personal holidays” that they can take throughout the year. I can appreciate the flexibility of this arrangement. I also admit that before there was this holiday, when I was in high school and college, our school day had assemblies, prayer services, speakers and … Continue reading

Ancestry.com has added two brand new collections of records. They were made available, and searchable, in time for Veterans Day 2012. The collections are a going to be a permanent part of what Ancestry.com can offer genealogists who use the popular genealogy website. In the past, Ancestry.com has released certain collections that relate to a particular noteworthy date shortly before the day that the holiday was celebrated, honored, or commemorated. How Veteran Homeschoolers Alarm New Homeschoolers

When parents first consider homeschooling they naturally will seek the guidance of a veteran homeschooler. Those who are debating homeschooling are full of questions but all the questions will boil down to, “Can I do this?” and “How do I structure my day?” While they may ask about curriculum on the market what they really need is to feel confident they can make the right choices. Once they are confident about the prospect of homeschooling and structuring their day making choices will become less overwhelming. However, homeschooling is more than a choice for most it is a lifestyle and a … Continue reading

Regis Returning to “Millionaire”

It’s a blast from the not-so distant past… ABC is reviving “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” this summer, and they got Regis Philbin to come back as host. Uses for Return Address Labels

I enjoy supporting Paralyzed Veterans of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars. I’m never able to contribute a whole lot, but for my small offerings, they keep me well supplied with return address labels. I also receive them from The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation(those are gorgeous – they have roses all over them) and from various other charities. These, added to the roll I ordered when we moved, combine to make a huge pile of return address labels that I’ll never get fully used up – especially when I do most of my communicating online. But I’m not going to throw … Continue reading

Don’t Waste Your Time!

It’s hard to find good quality movies to watch, either with your family or by yourself, movies that will leave you either entertained or educated without leaving you feeling like you need a hot bath afterward to scrub off the filth. From time to time, we’ll be posting brief reviews of movies we’ve encountered that didn’t sit well with us, as well as why they didn’t, so you can be forewarned and have more information in your own decision whether you would or would not like to see the show. My five “Don’t Waste Your Time” movies today are, in … Continue reading
