Publishing Your Family History

Publishing your family history is a great way to share it with others. You have several options when it comes to publishing. This is the type of project where the self-publishing venues can be a real service. It depends on the type of book and binding that you choose. Depending on the size of your book you may choose to go to a copy shop and have the books printed and spiral bound. This works best for smaller books. Generally people opt to have the copies be in all black and white, though you may choose color pictures for a … Continue reading

Alabama Genealogy Resources

I’ve heard it said that many people never leave the state that they were born in. If this describes your ancestors, then it can be helpful to find genealogy resources that are specific to that state. Here are a bunch of genealogy resources for the state of Alabama. AlGenWeb is an outgrowth of a project called the Kentucky Comprehensive Genealogy Database Project. AlGenWeb provides a single entry point for all counties in Alabama where all the databases are cross-linked, indexed, and maintained by a coordinator. This is an excellent place to start your genealogy research about ancestors who come from … Continue reading

Beautiful ideas for family photos, family photo displays, and other projects can be found there, as well as links to interesting genealogy blogs. There are also beautiful ideas … Continue reading

Genealogy By The Numbers

I have never been much of a numbers person. Math was never my strong suit in school, and still I shy away from all things numerical. Imagine my horror when I was reading about methods for organizing genealogy research and came across – gasp – numbering systems. It turns out that many genealogists use numbers to organize the information that they collect about their ancestors. There are established numbering systems that help genealogists organize their research so that they can easily follow any line of ancestors through their family tree. The numbering systems identify individuals and their relationships to each … Continue reading
