Who Can You Trust?

I have major trust issues. And by major I mean I really don’t trust anyone. That goes triple when my child is involved. Make that quintuple. Let’s just say I am not the type of parent, who would drop off my 9-year-old kid at a municipal pool with five bucks for lunch and head to work for 8 hours, hoping that the lifeguards or other adults will make sure he’s alive and well by the time I return. For many parents, entrusting their flesh and blood to others is not a task they take lightly. And, no, I don’t buy … Continue reading

Blood Test Results Lead to Divorce

A simple blood test can reveal a lot about a person. It also can tell you important information about who that person is related to. When blood test results reveal unexpected things, this can lead to family problems, (including divorce). Genealogists may want to keep this in mind before ordering a home DNA kit. A student in Taiwan was studying blood types and hereditary properties in his junior-high school biology class. He learned that his blood type was B, and that his father’s blood type was A. This lead the student to ask his father how that could be possible. … Continue reading

Your Blood Type Might Affect Your Risk for Stroke

A new study finds that your blood type might actually affect your risk of having a stroke. It is not the only risk factor, but is something that people should be aware of. Your blood type is determined by genetics that your parents handed down to you. This means that your risk of stroke is something that can run in your family as well. What is your blood type? You got your blood type from one gene that was passed to you from your mother, and another gene that was passed to you from your father. Your blood type could … Continue reading

How You Got Your Blood Type

What is your blood type? Not everyone knows the answer to this very important question. If you know what each of your parent’s blood types are, then you might be able to figure out what your blood type could, potentially, be. This is something that is determined by genetics, and handed down from one generation to the next. A recent survey shows that around 45% of Canadians didn’t know what their own blood type was. I would imagine that this percentage would be about the same, if not higher, for Americans. Do you know your blood type? How about your … Continue reading

Like What You’ve Got

Nothing gets the Internet fired up more than a mom going public about her utter disdain for her child. And we’re not talking about a bitter teen, who stole the family car, crashed it into a brick wall and tried to torch it to hide the evidence, or even a grown kid who robbed his mother of her life savings. Rather, the mom in the media spotlight I am referring to recently penned an article for Redbook detailing her dislike for her firstborn, a “small, shy, weak, anti-social” baby, who apparently epitomized everything she didn’t want in a child, especially … Continue reading

Pregnancy Will Make You Stronger?

There’s an interesting theory circulating the news and blogs this week. Professor Greg Whyte, a Professor of Applied Sport and Exercise Science at Liverpool John Moores University recently stated that he believes pregnancy and childbirth can actually improve strength and joint mobility in women. Apparently scientists speculate that pregnancy hormones are performance enhancing for female athletes. Personally, I feel as though my abs have gotten a passport and left the country. I barely have enough stamina to get through the whole day without a nap. I definitely don’t feel any stronger. But, there is a list of female athletes who … Continue reading

What’s Your Personal Love Myth?

From ancient times, myths and fairy tales have contained more spiritual truth in one telling than we can even process, which is why the soul keeps asking to have them told once again. ~-From the essay “Mythical Woman” in Sarah Ban Breathnach’s Romancing the Ordinary-~ The past week has seen a lot of discussion about romantic movies here in the Marriage Blog. It all started when Dale shared some of her picks for romantic favorites, then continued with a few more in part two. Next it was my turn to chime in with a list of 52 romantic movies you … Continue reading

You Need to Eat Breakfast to Lose Weight

I’m so guilty on this one. I almost never eat a good breakfast. I generally have a few cups of coffee (something new since the twins were born) and something sweet. By 10am I am back to my normal fruit, granola, and low fat yogurt routine. But researchers are discovering that what you eat to break the fast. . .may influence how you eat the rest of the day. Not only that, but people who regularly eat breakfast are at a significantly lower risk for obesity and type II diabetes. So it goes without saying, eat your breakfast! Eating sugary … Continue reading
