Family Tree University Has a Virtual Genealogy Conference

Typically, a genealogy conference will take place in a building, hotel, or conference center that is large enough to accommodate the crowds. If you cannot travel out to where it is taking place, then you will miss it. It’s nice that Family Tree University is having a Virtual Genealogy Conference. This could make it much easier for people to check it out. Family Tree University is not an accredited college. It is the name of the “learning center” (for lack of a better term) for Family Tree Magazine. It is a great resource for genealogists who want to learn more … Continue reading

Stay Cool This Summer With a Genealogy Movie

It is very hot where I live right now. When it is this hot, finding things to do to keep cool is a real sanity saver. Movies are great on hot days because the theaters are often equipped with ice cold air conditioning. Unfortunately, the closest theater is about an hour away and I’m not sure that my 20 month old would want to sit still and stay quiet for the duration of one of this summer’s new releases. Fortunately, our basement stays nice and cool and we have a television down there where we can watch movies. As I … Continue reading

The online classes that genealogists take through FTU will enable them to learn a lot about a … Continue reading

Want to Attend a Virtual Genealogy Conference?

One of the difficulties that genealogists have when they consider attending the conference is the “attendance” part. Most people cannot simply dash off to the other side of the country to attend an interesting conference on a whim. Even nearby ones could be difficult to fit around your work schedule. An excellent solution to this problem is to attend a virtual genealogy conference. Family Tree Magazine has created a series of resources under the banner “Family Tree University”. They are doing something rather unique this summer. They will be holding the Family Tree University 2011 Virtual Conference from August 19, … Continue reading

Check Out These Bizarre Genealogy Related Products

Strange things happen when companies try to market to genealogists. The obvious choice would be for a company to offer to make your family tree into a beautiful piece of artwork. It would make a certain amount of sense for a company to make customized t-shirts or coffee mugs with a surname printed on them. Sometimes, though you end up with some really bizarre items, instead. You have probably heard of companies that sell DNA testing kits. These have been marketed to genealogists for two primary reasons. The company can analyze your DNA and point out other customers whose DNA … Continue reading

An Enemy To Watch Out For

There is an enemy out there that could sneak up on any genealogist at any time. All genealogists, from the amateur that started her research today to the professional that helps others with tough family history detective work, no one is immune from attack. The enemy that I speak of is not poor vision caused by squinting at tiny print on ancient records or spending hours on the computer doing research, nor is it an inability to speak in anything other than a whisper due to spending so much time in the library. Who, or what, then is this enemy … Continue reading
