Genealogy Gifts

One reason that many people do genealogy is to get a sense of where they came from and to understand the heritage that they have. It is important to pass that heritage on to the rest of your family as well. It would be a shame to do all of the work, and then have someone in a few generations do all of the work again because it was not passed on. One easy way to pass it on is to give it as gifts.

One gift is a family tree wall hanging. These make beautiful and interesting pictures and can be a starting point for conversations. You can order these through a number of sites, and have them framed for family members.

Another gift is to give the genealogy in book form. You can have the books bound for a reasonable amount of money, and most family members will hang on to them and pass them on to future generations. One nice thing about the book is that you can add photos and stories about the family members as much or as little as you like. This gives you the option to bring the history to life.

Another great gift is to put the names and faces together. You can do this with a scrapbook or with a wall hanging. If you have someone in your family who loves genealogy you can have old photos restored and give the photos as a gift. This is a great way to bring the history to life.

Another great gift is to complete a personal history for each person in your family. I cherish the personal history I have of each my grandparents. They allow me to see them as children and to learn from their lives. This takes time to compile and write, but it is worth the effort.

A video of stories about a specific family or family member is another great gift. At a family reunion have a room set aside to capture these stories and then edit them together to give to everyone. As people are forgotten in upcoming generations so are the lessons and stories that make a family a family preserving these stories will help the memories to last much longer.

Finally setting up a family website that focuses on genealogy and family history is a great gift for everyone in your family. This allows them to access the information quickly and easily. It may also allow you to make contact with others who are doing the research on your line as well.
