Doing Genealogy on a Mac

I have spoken to many people who are reluctant to switch to using a Mac because they are concerned about finding software that is compatible with a Mac. In particular the PAF software used by familysearch.org has not been updated since 1996. You can choose several options that will allow you to complete your genealogy on a Mac.

One option is to run Bootcamp or another software program that allows you to simulate Windows on the Mac. This will allow you to run PAF or any other software that is available only for Windows computers. To do this you must have Mac with an Intel Processor. Another good program is Parallels.

A better option is to use an online program or website to complete your genealogy. FamilySearch.org is transferring everything to an online source. This means that you can complete and store your research online. You may also include online genealogy sites such as Ancestry.com or OneGreatFamily.com to complete your genealogy work. This is a good option because it is easier to share your information with family members. That reduces the chances of your files not being compatible with each other. It also offers a place for offsite storage.

You may decide to choose a family tree program or another program that is specifically designed for Mac. There are several programs that are designed for both PC and Mac as well. As you choose a program you may want to be sure that it is also compatible with any online site that you choose to use.

A Mac computer offers many benefits, and there are options available to you if you want to complete genealogy. You can find a lot of information on the different software specifically for a Mac at Macgenealogy.org. This site offers reviews and information on software and particularly iFamily.
