Is Obama Related to Palin?

Once in a while, genealogy research can reveal unexpected things. It seems like whenever a genealogist discovers that a famous person is related to another famous person, it gets talked about. A genealogist from Ancestry.com says that President Obama is related to former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. There are quite a few people who decide to start working on their family tree because they are convinced that they are somehow related to royalty, or to a famous actor or actress, or even to a former or current President of the United States. While it can be exciting to find proof … Continue reading

Are you related to the Presidents?

Are you related to any of the Presidents of the United States of America? It can be very exciting to discover that there is someone famous in your family tree. Today, I learned that if you are related to any U.S. President, you might very well be related to all of them. My husband and I went to the California Mid State Fair. This is something we enjoy doing every summer. We like to go and take a look at the farm animals, and to see the reptile show. It’s fun to see what the many vendors are selling each … Continue reading

How Often Do You Swing with Your Kids?

My kid’s been swinging since she was five-weeks-old. Now, at the ripe old age of four, she finds it more enjoyable to push me on a swing, then jump on the one next to mine and race me to “the moon.” I never win that game. Be that as it may, swings, or perhaps more specifically, parents swinging with their children, has been a hot topic this week following the delivery of a new pimped out swing set to the White House. Apparently, President and Mrs. Obama decided to treat their daughters, 7-year-old, Sasha, and 10-year-old, Malia, to a deluxe-edition … Continue reading

Kids’ Presidents’ Day Party

Many of you are probably home with your kids this Presidents’ Day, wondering what to do on this school holiday in a month when the weather tends to be raw. Many kids don’t really understand what a President does. This year, because of all the publicity surrounding a close election and the first African-American president, they may have a greater idea—but still, what the president actually does is likely to be a mystery. The following websites have information and activities geared to kids: lots of learning plus White House tours, information on presidential pets, and more: Social Studies for Kids … Continue reading

Mine Angels Shall Bear You Up

Perhaps the most common question asked by those seeking enlightenment about God’s relationship with His children is this: “Why do bad things happen to good people? If God loves us, why do these horrible things happen?” We’ve all heard it. “Sister Jones is so righteous. Why does she have cancer?” We need to keep in mind, righteousness is not a “get out of trials free” card. Every person on this earth, regardless of how righteous they are, must face trials and tribulations. We cannot progress and return to our Heavenly Father until we have done so. No one is immune. … Continue reading

Fathers of Famous Politicians and Presidents

Recently, I saw an interview on television with a presidential historian about United States Presidents and their absent fathers. The expert also looked at the current presidential nominees for the Democrats and the Republicans, their absent fathers and their need to please them. The discussion also included suggested reasons for their success. One of the reasons given for the success obtained by children of famous fathers is that their fathers were often absent from home and were very career-oriented parents. It was suggested that if a father is frequently gone from home because of his career, that the child will … Continue reading

Pet Horoscopes: What’s Your Pet’s Sign?

I find astrology really interesting. I know some people would argue it’s evil because it goes against the teachings of their religions. I have no idea whether it’s bad or not. I just know astrology predates many of those religions and that even presidents as recent as Ronald Reagan have consulted astrologers to guide them in their daily affairs. I also don’t know if there really is something to the way the stars and planets are lined up that affect us, but I have noticed a couple of things. One, when it’s a full moon people do tend to act … Continue reading
